Wastewater treatment and CO₂ sequestration

Advice on the implementation of a carbon sequestration project through bamboo plantations irrigated by treated wastewater.

Approach

TransAsia TanTec Ltd. operates a tannery in the Vietnamese province of Tay Ninh, Vietnam, and is interested in sequestering and thus offsetting carbon emissions directly on the company premises.

For this purpose, an unused area of about 10,000 square meters could be used for the implementation of the so-called "C to the Power of 3" concept (C3), in which carbon is sequestered in fast-growing biomass plantations in connection with decentralized wastewater treatment.

Results

The project contributes to the excellent image of TransAsia TanTec and enables a carbon-reduced production of high-quality leather products.

The project not only removes carbon from the atmosphere, actively combats global warming and thus has a global impact, but also aims to have a local impact by creating more forest cover and greater biodiversity.
